Weir Street Light Engineering can refurbish and rebuild egines of all shapes, sizes and ages from motorbikes and cars, to trucks, buses, generators and marine diesels.  The list below is a small selection of the jobs we commonly undertake - if you have an engine problem we can solve it.  Email or telephone us for advice or prices and delivery times.

Checks the internal structure of the engine block and head for cracks and other leaks, sometimes caused by freezing or overheating.  Prices from £28.00.

We offer a complete test and rebuild service for cylinder heads, re-using parts where possible and replacing with new or reconditioned parts where necessary.  Heads are remanufactured to British Standards in our fully fitted workshop in Blackburn by trained professionals.  Quality and attention to detail are second nature here and all heads are supplied with valves fitted.

Resurfacing... aka 'skimming', is recommended after a gasket failure to ensure a flat surface before refitting.  This can include manifold surfaces as well as the head gasket surface.

Valve & valve seat refacing... to ensure engine efficiency and maintain compression.  Valves from £2.25ea, valve seats from £2.25ea.

Valve guides... replaced.  Prices from £7.00 per valve.  Bronze sleeves from £7.00 per valve.

Unleaded conversion... involves replacing the valves and guides - most older and period engines can be succesfully converted to use unleaded petrol.  Prices from £15.00 per valve.

Reboring... We can supply pistons and rings and rebore your engine to fit, or we can rebore to your specifications.
Prices from £10.00 per cylinder.  Single cylinder motorcycle engines from £20.00.

Resleeving... Sleeves and matching pistons and rings supplied and fitted.  Prices from £40.00 (plus piston) per cylinder.

Crank grinding... pins and journals reground with matching bearing shells  Prices from £5.00 per pin/journal.

Flywheel facing... removal of distortion, high spots etc. for smoother clutch operation.  Prices from £22.00.

Sometimes a damaged or leaking cylinder head or block, particularly older period models, can be repaired by welding and then refacing.  Please email info@weirstreet.co.uk or telephone Miles or Ivan on 01254 59544 for advice.

Refacing... We can turn both discs and drums and provide a smooth, regular surface to minimize judder.  Work is carried out off the vehicle.  Prices from £11.00 per disk/drum.

We repair threads, eg. sparking plugs, sump plugs etc, using Timeserts.  This gives a stronger thread than the original in most cases and is the only thread repair system recommended by the major motor manufacturers.
